Most people use Huckleberry Mountain Trail #617 to get from Lost Lake up to the Pacific Crest Trail. It leaves Lakeshore Trail #656 at the south end of the lake, crosses a boardwalk by some campsites, and climbs at a moderate grade through thick huckleberry and stands of old-growth hemlock.

About half a mile up, there are good views of Lost Lake. To start, park near Lost Lake Horse Camp on Forest Road 1340 and take Old Growth Trail #657 a short way to the lakeshore trail. At the PCT junction, turn back the way you came or keep going toward Lolo Pass or Indian Springs.
