Few hikers use Eagle Creek Cutoff Trail #504, which makes it a good pick for solitude in the Salmon-Huckleberry Wilderness. Shared by hikers and horse riders, it mostly serves as a link from Eagle Creek Trail #501 up to Old Baldy Trail #502.

Its north end begins at a ford, at the eastern end of Eagle Creek Trail, and from there it climbs at a moderate, steady grade through many switchbacks to meet Old Baldy Trail. Carry what you need: good campsites are lacking, and the only water is a small wet patch near the top. Access is from a small pullout on Forest Road 4614, reached by forest roads south of Estacada.
