Linney Creek Trail #499 heads into the Salmon-Huckleberry Wilderness where Forest Road 5800-240 (Linney Creek Road) ends. It starts in thick old-growth rain forest, where ferns and rhododendrons cover the ground and Draw Creek joins Linney Creek, and it connects to Salmon River Trail #742 on the far bank of the river.

The first quarter mile crosses a steep slope above the creek. At 0.3 mile, rounding a ridge, you can see Linney Creek flow into the Salmon River. Soon the path forks: left heads down to a big campsite and a moderate ford, while right stays high, then descends to a large swimming hole at the site of a bridge that was never built.
