Boulder Ridge Trail #783A climbs from the BLM’s Wildwood Recreation Site, off US Highway 26 about 15 miles east of Sandy, into the Salmon-Huckleberry Wilderness on its west side. It’s a steady workout, with 2,600 feet of gain in 3.7 miles on a forested, north-facing slope, ending at Plaza Trail #783 on the ridge top.

Once you’re up on the ridge, you can look out over the Salmon River Valley and toward Mt. Hood. To find the start, take the Wetlands Boardwalk Trail from its shared trailhead across the Salmon River, and pick up Boulder Ridge Trail half a mile in. Wildwood’s shorter interpretive trails suit anyone in your group not up for the climb.
