Bear Lake Trail #413A is one of the easier outings in the Mark O. Hatfield Wilderness, a short walk through timber to a subalpine lake deep enough to hold fish. From the shared Wyeth and Mount Defiance trailhead on Dead Point Road (Forest Road 2820), follow Mount Defiance Trail #413 for 0.5 mile to the junction, then turn left.

The spur contours around 4,100 feet for half a mile to a saddle above the lake, where Mount Adams comes into view, then drops more steeply over the last 0.2 mile. That is about 1.2 miles from the car. From the shore you can see Mount Defiance. The tread is a bit rocky but easy to follow.
