Timberline Summit Pass Ski Area, formerly Summit Ski Area, sits right in the middle of Government Camp in the Zigzag Ranger District. Dating to 1927, it is the second-oldest ski area in the country to run without a break. With one chairlift, it is a smaller option than its neighbors on Mt. Hood.

Summit Pass is best known for its tubing hill, and lots of people learn to ski, snowboard or snowshoe here. Interpretive exhibits are also listed for the site. From Portland, drive about 30 miles east on Highway 26 to Government Camp, then take the left at the caution light near the east end of town; the ski area shares a lot with the rest area.
