Chinidere Mountain stands above Wahtum Lake in the Mark O. Hatfield Wilderness, and its summit has some of the widest views in the area: five glaciated volcanoes on a clear day, plus a look along Eagle Creek toward the Columbia Gorge. Chinidere Mountain Trail #445 climbs half a mile of short switchbacks from the Pacific Crest Trail #2000 to the 4,670-foot top.
Start at the Wahtum Lake Trailhead by Wahtum Lake Campground and descend to the Pacific Crest Trail. Heading east around the lake is the easier approach, about 1.8 miles to the trail. A shorter, steeper route uses the Eagle Creek Trail and Chinidere Cutoff Trail #406M. Near the summit, keep an eye out for unusual rock pits.
