This trailhead sits inside Eightmile Campground on the Barlow Ranger District, with parking in the campground’s day-use area. It serves both the Eightmile Loop Trail (#496) and the Eightmile Interpretive Trail (#496A). From Dufur, Dufur Valley Road turns into Forest Road 44 at the forest boundary, and drivers coming down Highway 35 from Hood River pick up the same road. Both routes finish with a short run on Forest Road 4430.
The setting is quiet and wooded, with Eightmile Meadow and streams close by, which makes it a good place for a picnic or a stroll past the interpretive displays. The lot holds roughly 8 to 10 vehicles, and there are no restrooms.
