Burnt Lake North is the trailhead for the Burnt Lake Trail, which leads into the Mount Hood Wilderness. Hikers with more energy can carry on toward Zigzag Mountain, where the route climbs above treeline for wide views. Watch for old cedar snags along the way, left from a wildfire that burned through around 1900.
The trailhead is at the end of Forest Road 1825-109, reached from Lolo Pass Road north of Zigzag and past Lost Creek Campground. Parking fits about 10 medium-sized vehicles, and you will find a picnic table, an interpretive sign, and a seasonal toilet. There is no drinking water.
