Cloud Cap Saddle, a small campground, doubles as the Cloud Cap Trailhead, a northern jumping-off point for the Timberline Trail and the Tilly Jane Trail. A little farther up the road stands the historic Cloud Cap Inn, which now serves search and rescue crews working on the mountain.

The site is in the Hood River Ranger District. From Hood River, drive south on Highway 35, turn onto Cooper Spur Road, then take Cloud Cap Road, also called Forest Road 3512, for nearly 10 miles. It is narrow and winding, and a high-clearance or 4WD vehicle might be needed. There are vault toilets but no drinking water, and Lost Lake Resort manages the site.
