Small and rustic, Summit Lake Campground sits beside quiet Summit Lake in the Clackamas River Ranger District. To get there, take Highway 26 east from Sandy to Skyline Road (Forest Road 42) and follow it south. The route leaves the national forest for a stretch before coming back in. Then turn west on Forest Road 4200-141 for about a mile.

The lake is shallow, which makes for easy swimming, and fishing and picnicking fill out the day. Some sites are walk-in, and trails are nearby. There are vault toilets but no drinking water, so bring all you’ll need.
